General Information

What services do we offer?

We offer program for players aged 3-18 years old in both recreational and competitive levels. Our club is one of the few soccer clubs in our area that offers year-round programming for both recreational and competitive level players. We have league seasons in both fall and spring, with optional offseason training programs in winter and summer. We even offer our players free independent training programs and free futsal in the winter.

Why should my son or daughter play for Sun Prairie Soccer Club?

There are many great clubs in Dane County and we think that we’re one of them. We are the largest club on the east side of Madison, serving about 700+ players and more than 50 teams each year.  We pride ourselves on the service we provide to our players and our community, while also being able to compete at higher levels than most of our neighbors. More importantly, we’ve been an enormously positive influence in the lives of thousands of children in our community and have former players now playing at the highest levels of youth soccer and college. Our focus on appropriately incorporating the developmental stages of our players means that we are dedicated to serving their best interests, while putting them on a track for success in their soccer careers.

Coaching

We are proud to have a diverse group of Coaches who have been serving players in our community and beyond for decades. Together, they have licenses ranging from Grassroots to C License. We use a mix of paid Staff Coaches and volunteers. All 11U+ Coaches are paid employees.

We provide ongoing education and development for our Coaches and are currently working towards having a D license at every age group 9U and up. We currently have some of the highest combined levels of licensing in the region.

Player Development Model

Our Sun Prairie Way Development Framework is designed to be a progressive model for developing players at age-appropriate levels and in accordance with US Soccer’s Player Development Framework. It is meant to help set expectations for players as they progress through our club, while using a phased approach to developing technical and tactical skills. Affordability

We strongly believe that the cost to play our game should not be a barrier for anyone, which is why we make sure our costs are comparable to other soccer clubs and even other youth sports offerings in our area. We are proud to be able to provide a high quality service to our members at such an affordable cost.

Our goal is to be up front and as transparent as possible in regards to costs, so our families are not surprised by anything. Our fees are inclusive of costs for coaching, league fees, referee fees, tournament fees, and administration. The only additional costs a family should prepare for are uniforms (9U+ only) and travel expenses going to and from games/tournaments.

Additional programs, such as Winter and Summer Training, have an additional cost. Futsal in winter is free for everyone.

Scholarships/Financial Aid

We provide financial support/scholarships for every family that needs it, and we have never turned anyone away. We also allow families to make payments throughout the year to minimize their initial costs and allow check payments so they can avoid processing fees. In addition, we maintain an inventory of used equipment that anyone is free to request. See this link  for more information: https://www.sunprairiesoccer.com/financialaid

Age Groups

Our programs conform to US Soccer's age requirements, which are based on the player's birth year.  Players may play up a year if they are looking for an extra challenge and if it is safe to do so, or play down if necessary or desired provide. Playing down requires approval from our league.

Teams may be grouped together when necessary. This is most common in the 14U/15U age group where players are split between those that are in 8th grade and can play for us year-round, and those that are in 9th grade and can only play for us in fall (girls) or spring (boys) because they are playing for their high schools in the opposing seasons.

Travel/Time Requirements

Our players train at various parks and schools around Sun Prairie, generally on either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays for up to 90 minutes, depending on the age group. Schedules may vary and some Coaches choose to have third trainings each week. Additional trainings with our Director of Player Development are also available.

Games and tournaments are generally played around Dane County (four home, four away each season). Teams playing in State League will have away games throughout the state. Most games are played on Saturdays, but some Sunday games are generally required. Our leagues dictate the game schedules, which generally run from September to November in fall and April to June in spring.

Playing Up

Players often have the opportunity to play up a year and wonder if its a good decision. The answer to this question depends on the player. Overall, are they skilled enough and emotionally ready to compete against players with more experience and maturity? Its important to note that players don't play up forever, so at some point they will have to repeat an age group.

Volunteering Needs

We are always looking for volunteers to help us in various areas to serve both our Club and our community.  We currently have a handful of administrative employees running the day-to-day operations of the Club, a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for the oversight of the club, and an amazing core of coaches and team volunteers that all work very hard to provide the very best youth soccer club in our area.  See this link for more information; https://www.sunprairiesoccer.com/volunteering

Collaborations

Working together with other organizations is critical to growing our game throughout our area. We have a longstanding tradition of working with neighboring clubs to form teams when necessary to ensure that all players in our area have the greatest opportunity to play soccer.  We are proud to have players from nearby communities playing on our various teams every year, which provides opportunities for players to develop with similar skill sets and commitment levels and allows us to build teams when numbers are required.

We also support our players participating in events with other clubs that provide them with greater opportunities for development.

Equipment Needed

All players are expected to come to training in the proper attire for playing soccer, while considering the weather. This includes bringing a ball, wearing shin guards at all times, and having plenty of water. Official uniforms are required for all games (team jerseys, shorts, and socks).

DEI Committee

Our volunteer DEI Committee and Board Members have been instrumental in bringing in more players to our club. We have spoken to many people who wouldn’t have even considered soccer for their children if not for our engagements and are now working to provide them with better access to our sport. This is critical because the number one cause for clubs losing players is other sports, not each other. All the while, our efforts in raising donations and providing support is making a real positive impact in people’s lives. See this link for more information: https://www.sunprairiesoccer.com/dei
