Team Placement/Tryouts Registration for 2021-2022

UNION TEAM NOTIFICATION PROCESS

The following communication was sent to all UNION 10U-14/15U Tryout participants:

First and foremost, we want to thank you for participating in the 2021-2022 UNION Tryout collaboration between Norski SC and Sun Prairie SC. Staff and coaches have been working diligently to create team rosters for the upcoming season. Team offers for the 10U – 14/15U age groups will be sent starting Friday, June 25th at noon. When you receive your offer, you have 24 hours to accept, although we ask that you please respond as soon as possible to ensure a smooth process for all. Based on the 24-hour acceptance period, it can take up to two or more days to complete all offers. Please be patient!

The purpose of this communication is to explain the process that will be in play and the steps each family/player will need to follow.

PHASE 1: Team Offers

  • Offers will be sent out via email in the approximate time frames on 6/25/21:

    • 12:00 - 2:00 PM  Union Premier - 1st Teams

    • 2:00 - 4:00 PM = Union Select - 2nd Teams

    • 4:00 - 6:00 PM = Union Classic - 3rd Teams

    • 6:00 - 8:00 PM = Union Academy - 4th Teams

  • Offers will be sent from either Norski SC or Sun Prairie SC depending on which club will be housing the age group. Example: All 11U Boys teams would get an offer from Sun Prairie SC and all 11U Girls Teams would get an offer from Norski SC. The reasoning and agreement by both clubs for this are to ensure logistical club passing opportunities for all players in an age group and gender to help out at games over the course of the year. Price points for each club and level of commitment will also be identical.

  • The Team offer email will include:

    • Team that they have been offered a position on for the 2021-2022 season

    • General description of the team commitment in regards to practices, tournaments, potential league placement, and the annual cost associated with the overall experience.

  • ACCEPTING or DECLINING your team offer (24 Hours)

    • ACCEPTING: Reply all to the email indicating your child accepts the roster spot to play on the team they have been offered.

    • DECLINING: Reply all to the email indicating your child declines the roster spot to play on the team they have been offered.

PHASE 2: UNION Migration & Uniform Sizing Registration for Accepting Team Players (Amended 7/3/21)

PHASE 2A of the registration process is now active (7/4/21). The process has been amended to where ALL PLAYERS are now required to complete both phases of the registration process. The reason that all players are required to complete the PHASE 2A is we are collecting uniform jerseys and short sizes as these orders need to be submitted as soon as possible. When registering please register for the FREE “UNION Migration & Uniform Sizing” program that should take no more than 3 minutes to complete. The deadline to complete this registration is Wednesday, July 7, 2021

As a reminder, both clubs are closely working together to make sure that price points are the same while also making sure budgets are being met. All Boy's teams will be registering at Sun Prairie SC while all Girl's teams will register at Norski SC. This will help address any logistical club passing opportunities that may come up over the year.  Listed below is the registration link for the age groups and genders of where players should register for the upcoming year.

    • Uniforms: In PHASE 2B uniforms will be billed and collected for.
    • Payment options: All payments will be divided equally depending on the number of payment dates chosen in your payment plan.Debit/Credit Card service fees are the responsibility of the consumer.
      • DC/CC fee is ~3.3% per transaction

Finally, we greatly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we transition into the UNION collaboration between Norski SC and Sun Prairie SC. The leaderships and coaching staff of both clubs look forward to seeing everyone on the field this fall.

Thank you,

Tryout/Placement Information

Where:

  • See chart below for your child's age group and gender time and locations:

    • Scottish Highlands Park (6700 Tartan Trail, Sun Prairie, WI 53590).

    • Windsor Sports Commons (4198 Mueller Road, DeForest)

What Should Players Bring: Come prepared for a regular game or practice (Soccer shoes, shin guards and a ball). Bring plenty of water.

What Should Players Do Upon Arrival? Upon arrival each night, please check in at registration with the staff on site. The first night you will receive your tryout t-shirt when you check-in, so you will want to arrive 20-30 minutes early. Players will all receive a tryout bib with a number on it that will be placed on their shorts and are required to have on them each night.

What If I'm On Vacation During My Tryout Date/s? If you are on vacation and cannot make tryouts, please do the following:

  1. Be sure to register for tryouts/placement using the demosphere registration system link further down this page. All players who want to be considered for a 2021-2022 team placement with SPSC/NSC or Union teams must register for tryouts/placement.

  2. After completing step 1, please fill out the SPSC/NSC form at https://forms.gle/163obK8rwy73eP3e9). This form will generate a list of players who will not be at tryouts due to other family obligations/vacations, etc... This list will be given to the coaches each night.

Players who cannot physically be at tryouts will be considered for a team solely based on the written evaluation from their 2020-21 team coach. Tryout t-shirts will be made available for pick up later in June for these players that can not attend.

What are Tryouts/Placement?

Beginning at the U11 level (this year that is birth year 2011 and older), players are evaluated by coaches during two separate 90-minute sessions. During these sessions, players will be asked to engage in individual, small and large group skill demonstrations.

As part of their Tryout/Placement Fee, all players receive a T-shirt that must be worn during tryouts on both nights. Each tryout T-Shirt has a unique number on the back. It is vital to the process that the tryout shirts be worn because coaches and evaluators will only have players' shirt numbers on their evaluation forms, not player names.

Tryout evaluations of player skills, teamwork, and attitude will be combined with written evaluations from players' spring 2021 regular season coaches. These final evaluations are then used to group players into teams. Evaluators for this year's tryouts have not been named at this time. This page will be updated as more information is made available.

Unlike team formations prior to the U11 level, the next step is for players to receive an invitation for team placement. Invitations are emailed to players inviting them to a specific team at a specific level. The email address used is the email address for the primary administrator in each household registered in the Demosphere system. Once sent, invitations are good for 24 hours. When a player receives an invitation they have the opportunity to Accept or Decline an invitation. If an invitation is not accepted or declined in 24 hours, it will automatically be registered as a declined invitation and other players may be invited to the team.

For U11-U15 players, invitations can go out beginning at noon on June 25th.

For U16 and up, invitations can go out as early as July 2.

***While the SPSC coaches will do their best to place all players on a team, occasionally there are not enough teams to place all players. In these cases, the SPSC coaches will do their best to combine teams if the talent levels allow for a positive experience for all. If this is not possible, the club will work with nearby clubs to try and match players with a team.

FAQ's

Why UNION?

  • Simply put, with more numbers we can provide every player on each team the best and most consistent learning environment possible throughout each team based on where they are at in their development and commitment levels. Fostering a positive learning environment where all players can develop over time with confidence and success at their own rate.

  • Will all teams in the 10U-14/15U age groups be UNION teams?

    • Yes, all teams in these age groups will be considered UNION teams. The goal of the UNION is to group players of “like-minded and like-abilities” on each team within an age group. However, lower-level teams could be made of players that are primarily from one community to make more socially based teams over ability.

      • UNION Premier

      • UNION Select

      • UNION Classic

      • UNION Accademy

  • My child does not want to play on a union team, can they continue to play on an SPSC or NSC team?

    • To be more inclusive versus exclusive all teams in the 11U - 114/15U age groups will be called UNION teams. That being said, the top team or two in an age group/gender will in most cases be assembled based on player abilities depending on overall numbers in the age group. Potentially the second team but a higher possibility that the third and/or fourth teams could be assembled based on the community in which the player lives.

  • Where will practices be?

    • There are many variables and logistics that come into play when considering practice locations for teams. Practice locations will work around the coach and coaching structure to better serve all of our members. When and where possible community-based teams will train in their community. If the coach has multiple teams then the teams will most likely have to come to where the coach will be holding their practice as the coach's practices will be back to back. If the coach only has one team then the coach could come to the team and practice where it is most convenient for the majority of the team to practice.

  • What nights will my child’s team practice on along with the times?

    • Teams that practice 3 times per week will either be M/T/R or T/W/R.

    • Teams that practice 2 times per week will either be M/W or T/R

    • 10U & 11U teams will most cases practice 5-6:30 but could end up going 6-7:30

    • 12U Teams will either fall in the 5-6:30 or 6:30-8 Time slot.

    • 13U & 14/15U teams have a higher probability of practicing 6:30 - 8 PM. Especially, first and second teams as they will train under lights in the fall at WSC.

  • Where will games be?

    • Home games will be played in both communities. Balancing out games on the fields will help save on wear and tear providing the best playing surface for all.

    • If the majority of a team is from one community versus the other then home games most likely will reside in the community that has the most amount of players from that community.

  • Will there be tryouts for the 10Us?

    • Yes, but there are two choices

      • Player's interested in playing up an age group in 11U as an entire birth year team. Meaning all players on the team will be born in the same birth year. Individual players playing up will be at the discretion of the DOC’s.

        • If your 10U player has signed up and paid for the 10U experience prior to tryouts and they end up making an 11U team your player fees will be credited/transferred to the 11U appropriate fees.

      • 10U players not looking to play up can still register for their age-appropriate programs back in their respective community clubs.

  • Why were these three age groups (10U, 11U, and 12U) the ones chosen?

    • In the soccer world, the life cycle is relatively short starting at 11U (8 years to 19U) where the decision was to start the UNION at the 10U-12U age groups because this is where you need to start formulating teams to climb the competitive ladders of league play from MAYSA into State league and beyond. Start it later and you are well behind.

  • Will my child have to buy a new uniform?

    • Yes. Options are very limited at this time due to the pandemic so we will do our best to keep costs low

  • Who will the coaches be?

    • We would like to have all teams assigned with coaches before notification offers go out. If that’s not possible we will actively pursue coaches to be in place before the season officially starts.

  • What are the team level expectations for each UNION team within an age group?

    • 1st Team

      • Practices = 3 per week

      • League Games per season = 8-10

      • Tournaments per season = 3

    • 2nd Team

      • Practices = 2-3 per week

      • League Games per season = 8-10

      • Tournaments per season = 2-3

    • 3rd/4th Teams

      • Practices = 2 per week

      • League Games per season = 8

      • Tournaments per season = 2

  • How do the offers and notification process work?

    • Based on your child's age group all offers will be sent out via email on the date listed above in the chart with the earliest time being noon. Note that offers could come out at later times in the day.

    • Once that offer is received the player/family has 24 hours to accept or decline the offer based on the time stamp in the email.

      • Accepting - is a two-step process with the first being emailing the coach/club your acceptance. The second would be to click the accept button in the offer email that will take you to registration where you can make payment.

      • Declining - Email your coach/club your reasons for declining the position along with clicking on the Decline button in the offer email.

  • Can a player request what team they want to play on?

    • Yes and No. A player/family can not request to play up on a higher level UNION team as they need to be invited by the coach/DOC. However, a player/family can request to play down on a team that meets more of their social, financial, or time commitments depending on roster availability.

  • Are there payment plans?

    • Yes, there will be payment plans set up in registration with choices on how frequent along with the amount of each payment. If you need a different payment plan option other than what is provided please reach out to your club registrar to make special arrangements.

    • Both NSC and SPSC Registration systems will have a $1 Demosphere fee on every transaction along with approximately 3% in credit card processing fees.

  • Is there Financial Assistance?

    • Both clubs do provide financial assistance and have certain requirements that must be applied for and approved by each board.
