Gabe Riege - Director of Player Development
Gabe is a USSF D licensed Coach with twenty years of experience coaching players at all levels. He has been coaching at Sun Prairie Soccer Club for several years and also coached at Central High School (LaCrosse), Cambridge/Deerfield High School, Waunakee High School, and Sun Prairie High School (East).
As a player, Gabe was an all-conference starter for four years at Eau Claire North High School and a four-year starter at Viterbo University.
Coaching Philosophy
As a coach I’m a believer of putting players first and being committed to what’s best for them. It is my responsibility to create a positive environment where players feel safe and are able to gain confidence in themselves. I want players to have “FUN” and develop a love for the game while providing them the tools they need to be successful.
I think soccer is a great tool to help educate children and to prepare them for life. They learn how to work as a team, be a teammate, learn to work hard, show sportsmanship, and learn how to win and how to lose.
I believe in focusing on technical proficiency and building a strong fundamental foundation, which will create self-confidence. I also believe in putting an emphasis on effort and improvement, rather than the outcome of winning. I always tell my youth teams that the outcome doesn’t matter as much as the growth they are making. There is nothing better than sharing my love for this game and watching players develop their own love for it too!
