Greetings from the SPSC President.
Welcome to the SPSC. We are a not-for-profit community based soccer program that has been in the Sun Prairie area for nearly three decades. We began as a small soccer program, the Sun Prairie Youth Soccer Associations. SPYSA merged with Zia FC soccer club recently to create the current Sun Prairie Soccer Club. We currently have over 60 teams playing from kindergarten all way to the High School level. Over the years, there have been so many gracious volunteers who have dragged, lifted, and propelled our club forward when “soccer wasn’t cool.” We are here now because of the vision and hard work of so many before us. We want to offer the best of that soccer can offer our kids and our community. Our programs give us the opportunity to teach not just soccer, but life skills to the children in our community.
Soccer is a sport that requires the minimum of attire and a minimum of field equipment. An expanse of grass and a makeshift goal is all that is needed for a game to break out. In its simplest form, it’s a game of kicking the ball around. At the highest level, the sport requires extreme skill, finesse, intelligence, and athleticism.
How does a community based soccer club encompass the joys of both these extremes? One of the central goals of our whole program is fun. Enjoy this game for all that is offers. Run, play, kick the ball with your friends and learn all about soccer along the way. Our club offers recreation soccer for those players who want to play the game of soccer just for the fun of it. We also offer competitive classic level soccer for those more passionate about the game. Scan through our list of teams and you will see we have in-house teams that just play our other Sun Prairie club teams; we have travel recreational for those kids just starting their soccer endeavors; and we have our classic level for U11 and above, our most competitive division. Our club exists and flourishes due to our volunteer coaches, leaders, administrators, and Board members.
We have made many changes this year. We are developing a consistent and progressive teaching method to slowly and methodically build our kids soccer acumen and skills. We introduced a new interactive website to help give our parents to best source of up to date club information and changes. We have forged a new and better relationship with our High School program as we want our kids to stay and play in our community. Our High School kids have earned their time to play, and we want our soccer community to support all our kids at all levels. We endeavor to train our competitive coaches to the highest levels in order to offer our most competitive players more coaching expertise, variety and styles.
It’s been tough. We have economic changes every year. Gas prices make travel more expensive. We try to keep our overhead and costs low while trying to provide the best opportunities. Field space is one of our biggest obstacles. Our few fields are overused, worn out, and we don’t have enough. It’s certainly a sign of a healthy program, but our field needs are a significant limitation and sometimes the poor field conditions impact negatively on the game. (This is yet another solicitation for trying to find an area of land on which to build a Sports Complex!) We have new challenges thrown at us on a regular basis. Your Board of Directors works hard to meet the needs of the program. We also never seem to have enough volunteers. With over 60 teams, scheduling games, referees, rain dates, snacks, pictures, uniforms, equipment, etc, there’s always a need for more volunteers.
In short, the Sun Prairie Soccer Club is your place to find the best of soccer in the Sun Prairie area. We continue to grow, change, and evolve in order to give our members and players the best opportunity to play soccer. Your volunteer Board members donate a significant amount of time and effort every week, every season, all year long. We continually need volunteers at all levels so don’t hesitate to ask where you can help. Become a Board member and help lift our club to the next level. (If you have 40 acres of land to donate, please let me know, and we will put your Name in Lights.) All Board members are accessible via email. Please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are here for you and the players. Soccer is a great sport, and we will do our best to make it a fulfilling experience for everyone in Sun Prairie.
Stay and play soccer in Sun Prairie.
Warmly,
Michael Aughey
