As required by our constitution and by-laws, we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 6th. During this meeting, new officers were elected by the Board of Directors, as all Officers serve one year terms.
Many of you may not know Lisa Kalmerton, but she has served as President of the SPSC for the past five years. Lisa has been a pillar for the Club and has been instrumental in many positive developments including, but not limited to, managing the Club growth, elevating coaching with the Challenger and Aspire programs, and working with the City on improving our fields. Lisa recently made the decision to step down as President of the Club. However, she will serve on the Board as a mentor to help support me as well as Jen Diallo, who will serve as the Vice President. Megan Rogers will continue to be the Secretary and Cynthia Touzani will serve as the Treasurer. In addition, Matthew Cook was approved as a Board Member.
We still have one BOD seat open as well as many volunteer positions that need to get filled. All positions associated with the SPSC are volunteer with the exception of our Registrar, Director of Communications, and our field lining personnel. With our growth, we need help providing the best experience for our members, but this cannot happen without greater membership involvement. Please consider volunteering your time and talent to our club! Take on a challenge while having fun and making a difference.
In 2018, we hope to continue making positive developments. Here are some of the goals outlined at the AGM:
- Hire a new Director of Coaching
- Finalize the agreement with the City for the use of five fields (accomplished January 16, 2018).
- Continue and improve the Aspire program (we would love to hear your feedback)
- Discuss plans for fundraising
- Transition to a new registration system, which is required by WYSA.
- Continue to fulfill the Mission and Vision of SPSC.
Check out what we accomplished in 2017!
Our first Board meeting of the year is scheduled for January 21st at 6:00. The agenda is posted on our website where you will be able to find all meeting minutes going forward. These meetings are open to the public and anyone is welcome to come.
Finally, I would like to promote our Winter Training program. Andy Albright has done a fantastic job implementing this training program, which provides additional opportunities for our players to get extra touches on the ball during the winter months. All revenue from this goes towards our Scholarship program. We encourage all members to take advantage of these excellent opportunities. Find out more information about Winter Training.
I am looking forward to serving as President for the 2018 year. Our community has an enormous amount of talent and dedication and I am looking forward to an exciting year. Your feedback is always welcome and appreciated!
