Learn the “Sun Prairie Way”

Sun Prairie Soccer Club is building something great. We invite all of our coaches, U6 and up, to learn the “Sun Prairie Way” at our coaching training beginning on Monday, January 14. SPSC Director of Coaching Chad Wissler will lead coaching education (Classes 1-4) and membership education (Classes 5-6).

Coaches from in-house U6 to our U13+ teams are encouraged to join us to learn technical and game tactics as well as insights into player development. This is the start to our Club coaching program, which we will continue to build on during the spring season. Two opportunities are available for the first four class offerings – please attend one of each.

SPSC general membership, as well as coaches, is invited to Classes 5 and 6. Psychology of a Player (Class 5) focuses on developing players starting at U6 through high school. Our discussion will detail how players think and act at each age, which will tie into the age appropriate US Soccer approved curriculum.

The U6-8 Coaches Clinic is a separate offering in March. Coaches in this group are encouraged to attend this course in addition to the six class units.

Job Description
Position: Communications Director
This is a key role in the success of the Sun Prairie Soccer Club. The position works for the Sun Prairie Soccer Board and Club, and is a paid position.
Time Commitment:  5-10 hours per week, and may increase or decrease during busier/slower times of the soccer season

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Experience in program communications and promotions across traditional, online and social media platforms.
  • Leadership experience working collaboratively with volunteers, Board of Directors and program participants
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Lead and manage multiple projects in a timely and effective manner.
  • Engage the community as a lead representative for the club through key networking opportunities (other local clubs and schools)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA or BS in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field with 1-3 years related professional experience
  • Strong individual and team player
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, electronically and excellent presentation skills to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and deliver excellent customer service as the lead voice of the Club
  • High level of integrity, diplomacy and initiative
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Suites required, with strong Excel/database management skills
  • Graphic design skills preferred
  • Ability to keep a flexible schedule that may include "non-traditional" hours and “on call” type atmosphere

Cover letter, resumes and any supplemental creative samples should be sent to Dave Melum, President, president.spsc@gmail.com.

Bring on the Games!

9/7/2018

Dear SPSC Players and Families:

School is starting, we are meeting new teammates and our first league games are this weekend.  I am excited so many kids have chosen to play for Sun Prairie Soccer Club.  This year SPSC will have 56 teams ranging from U4 to U14/15 representing our community all over the State.  The forecast for the SPSC is bright!

Last year we embarked on a major initiative with the City of Sun Prairie.  I am thrilled to report the fields at Stoneridge Estates and Wyndham Hills Parks will be available this month.  We will utilize these fields this fall for practice as soon as we get the final clearance from the City. The improved fields will be our primary game fields for spring.  As soon as we get final clearance from the City we will notify teams so they can start utilizing them.

Next Thursday, September 13th, is Youth Night at the Sun Prairie High School Boys Varsity Soccer match against Parker (Janesville, WI). This is a very important night for the High School, as well as for SPSC. Many of the kids playing have come through the SPSC program and the support of our players at games is appreciated. This year Youth Night will be run a little different.  More details are forthcoming through the TeamSnap scheduled event.  The High School would like to acknowledge SPSC by having teams get introduced and walk out on the field with each of the varsity players. In the next few days your team will be sent the name of the player they will walk out on the field with and more detailed logistics information.  We will not be providing any gifts for individual players.  Prior to the games we do encourage SPSC teams to make signs in support of the High School team. We will also have poster board and markers at the game for on-site creations. Players, wear your SPSC jersey for free entry into the stadium.  Lets show our support for the Cardinals and come out in record numbers!

Without the leadership that is provided by the SPSC Board of Directors (BoD), we would be unable too operate.  The BoD is made up of ten volunteers that serve two year terms. Every year five board members terms expire and the club membership is required to fill those positions from those individuals interested in serving on the board. If you are interested in serving on the board, or know someone who would be a good candidate.  If a BoD position doesn’t suit you, we also need volunteers in other areas, including fundraising.  Just shoot me an email and we can determine what role would suit you best.  We also have staff roles that may be suited to your qualifications.  Get involved--your expertise is needed!

This summer the SPSC Staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate a major statewide change in our registration system, new training opportunities (Next Level Training), and the general organization of our teams (players, volunteers, and coaches).  I do want to recognize the countless hours Mindy Ripp: Program Director, Chad Wissler: Director of Coaching, and Carrie Brown: Communications Director have worked in order to be ready for the year. Their dedication and the support are what allows us to provide a quality soccer experience to the over 700 players that wear the SPSC logo.

Thanks again for choosing to be part of the SPSC.  I look forward to connecting with you at Youth Night and throughout the coming season.

Dave Melum
